Distance Learning 3/31

Good Morning! Today you will begin the draft of your presentation based on all of the research you have found. Below is what you need to do for today, make sure you are reading all directions carefully. The final copy of the presentation will be due Friday.

1. Begin the draft of your presentation based on all of the research you have found in Google Slides.

2. Use the Rubric attached to guide your presentation (what you should include on the slides). Remember this is a first draft.

3. You do not need to email me a copy of your presentation. You need to open the Google slides attachment and then click "turn in" when you are done. DON'T FORGET TO CLICK TURN IN, and only do that when you have done the assignment.

4. You can include pictures and effects, but I would do that later in the week when you are editing your drafts.

Distance Learning 3/30

Good Morning! We are into Week 3 of distance learning! This week we will continue to research and eventually create a Google Slides presentation on what you have learned about your topic. Below is what you need to do for today, make sure you are reading all directions carefully.

1. Continue research on your topic through articles on Newsela and/or outside sources. Use the graphic organizers from last week to jot down notes.

2. Homework- i-Ready for 30 minutes. 30 minutes must be done today in order to get full credit.

3. Some of you still have not taken the Informational test from last Thursday. You now have -10 already off your test grade.

4. Every thing we are doing for work since we have been out of school counts in your Term 2 grades. Many of you have already dropped a whole letter grade due to not completing work. You may not make up any classwork or homework for credit, make sure you do it from now on.

Distance Learning 3/27

Good Morning,

Today you will be continuing research on your topic and also taking notes. If you annotated and made notes on Newsela, I can see them. It's sort of like Google Docs where it saves your information automatically as long as you are signed in.

1. Find 2 sources outside of Newsela that are related to your topic. You may find articles from newspapers, magazines, online sources,  and interviews. You may not use videos as a source, you will not get credit for that.

2. You will jot down notes related to your research questions on the attached graphic organizer.

3. You do not need to share it with me, a copy will be made automatically for you. Make sure you press "turn in" when you are done with the organizer otherwise you do not get credit.

4. Many of you did not complete the test yesterday, it is -5 points everyday it is late.

5. Just like if we were in school, I do not accept late classwork as credit. You cannot choose to do a few days work and turn it all in late.

Have a great weekend! Stay safe and healthy.

Distance Learning 3/26

Good Morning!

Today you are taking the Informational Unit test on Google Classroom. It is due today, not any other day. You will have two attachments when you open the assignment. One will be the google form, and the other is the story that you need to read.

Make sure all work from the week is done, everything is on Google Classroom. Also, make sure you have your I-ready done for the week!

Stay safe and healthy

Distance Learning 3/25

Good Morning!

We are on day 3 of the research project using the Newsela website.
We are also going to be taking the Informational Reading Unit test this THURSDAY. It is the same test that we had planned for originally.
Your 60 minutes for I-Ready will now count as homework for 10 points. If you do not meet the 60 minute requirement for homework then you will get -2 points for each 15 minute increment.

1. If you have not done the brainstorming worksheet from 3/23 or research proposal sheet from 3/24 you have to do that first.

2. Today you will annotate the 3 articles from Newsela that you found. Use this video to help you, copy and paste it. Some of you did not pick articles from Newsela. You need to find articles from there first, otherwise you cannot annotate the articles digitally. https://learn.newsela.com/item/video/video-student-activities

3. Remember, you should be picking a topic that you want to research, not one that you feel you have to do. Good researchers are interested in their topics, other wise the work is not authentic.

4. Do not mark your assignment as "turned in" until you have actually done it.

5. Here is the link for Zoom from 1-1:30 today.

6. Study for Informational Unit test on Thursday and make sure your i-Ready minutes are complete today.

Distance Learning 3/24

Good Morning!
We are on day 2 of the research project using the Newsela website.
1. Log into your brainstorming sheet from yesterday. If you shared it with me, I have received it and I would have written a comment, to let you know I saw it.
2. Today you are going to finalize a topic by filling out the Research Project Proposal sheet on Google Docs. When you click on it, it should make a copy for you automatically, if it doesn't don't forget to do that before you type.
3. Remember, you should be picking a topic that you want to research, not one that you feel you have to do. Good researchers are interested in their topics, other wise the work is not authentic.
4. Today's classwork requires you to create questions to guide your research. We briefly talked about this when we were in school. You want to have "essential" questions that are answered through your research.
5. Study for test on Thursday
6. I will set up a Zoom call from 1:00-1:30 daily, if you have any questions you can check in then. Here is the link for today
