Mr. Brelsford's 8th Grade Social Studies Class

Welcome to Term 1 of the 2025–2026 school year! I am excited to continue working with your wonderful students and look forward to a great year together. This page will serve as my classroom website, where you can find updates and information.

We will begin the year by studying the United States Constitution and the early years of our nation. In addition, we will take time to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15), recognizing the many contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to our country’s history and culture.

Parents and students are encouraged to "subscribe" to my page. I will also be communicating through Class Dojo:Class Dojo

This year, we will focus on many reading and writing skills as we explore the history of the United States from the forming of the Constitution through the Civil War.  Students will learn basic social studies skills such as map reading, reading timelines, graphs, and close reading of nonfiction texts.  We will see how government the US government was formed, and how it works, and we will learn about westward expansion, the road to the Civil War, the Civil War, and Reconstruction.

In class, every Friday, we will discuss current events. Your students need to be aware of what is going on in the world, and your opinions as parents on these topics are very important.  Watch the news, or read and discuss news from your favorite newspaper with them.  Explain how you feel about what is going on in the world.

Please feel free to email me if you call or text me during school hours I may not return your call or text until later.  if you need to get a hold of me immediately please call the school and have me paged.
