Ms. Jurewicz 8th Grade ELA Class

My name is Jacque Jurewicz, and I am excited to serve as the 8th Grade English Language Arts teacher for the 2025–2026 school year. As a new educator, I bring a passion for literacy and a strong foundation in early childhood and elementary education, gained through my work in both the Madison and New Haven school districts.

I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education from Southern Connecticut State University and a Master’s Degree in Science Education from Albertus Magnus College. My academic background and classroom experience have shaped a teaching philosophy rooted in student growth, engagement, and meaningful learning.

In alignment with the Connecticut Core Standards for Grade 8 ELA, my classroom goals focus on building students’ reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills. Students will engage with diverse literary and informational texts to develop the ability to analyze themes, cite textual evidence, and evaluate arguments. Through guided and independent practice, students will also strengthen their writing by crafting clear, well-organized compositions, narrative, argumentative, and explanatory, with a strong command of grammar, punctuation, and structure.

Equally important, I aim to create a collaborative, inclusive environment where students learn to express ideas clearly, participate in discussions with respect and purpose, and grow as confident communicators prepared for high school and beyond.

I have provided the 2025-2026 Syllabus! Please read through with your student to ensure everyone is aware of this year's expectations! 8th Grade ELA Syllabus
