Welcome to Grade 6 ELA
Dreams without goals are just dreams. And ultimately, they fuel disappointment.
On the road, to achieving your dreams, you must apply discipline
but more importantly consistency because without commitment you'll never start,
but without consistency, you'll never finish." D.W.
My name is Angelica Lawrence and I’ll be teaching ELA for Grade 6 for the 2024-2025 school year. I’ve been teaching in elementary education for the past 7 years in the city of Bridgeport and I’m looking forward to what this new school year brings forth.
Aside from my teaching experience, I have earned an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Housatonic Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications with a concentration in Journalism from the University of Bridgeport, a Master’s Degree in Communications with a concentration in Corporate Communications and Public Relations from Sacred Heart University and lastly a Sixth Year Certificate in Elementary Education from the University of Bridgeport.
The goal is to make sure our students become strong readers who read with automaticity, recognizing words quickly and reading accurately with ease. These readers will gain an understanding of main idea and themes of their readings and are able to make inferences and draw conclusions of what they’ve read. They will have knowledge of vocabulary and are able to apply background knowledge as well.
These students will also become strong writers who understand how to build strong arguments and understand how to apply text evidence in their writing. The students will learn the four types of writing, apply organizational patterns and apply the mechanics of writing which include spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation.
I look forward to the learning that will take place this year. Please feel free to reach out by email: [email protected].
Wishing you all the best!
