Bridgeport, CT (July 2011) – Bridgeport residents Amy Castellanos and Mariah Martin, both who just graduated eighth grade from Park City Prep, were each named recipients of $5,000 scholarships from Ganim Group, Inc., a Bridgeport-based financial firm.
Castellanos and Martin will both be attending Fairfield’s Notre Dame Catholic High School, a coeducational diocesan Catholic high school that provides a college preparatory education to students from a wide area of the state. Park City Prep is a charter middle school in Bridgeport which promotes “academic excellence and foster[s] interest and competence in math, science, and technology.”
“Each year we give back to our community by offering a scholarship to a deserving student so he or she may attend the high school of choice,” said Lawrence J. Ganim, president and founder of Ganim Group. “Last year, the scholarship winner didn’t end up using the scholarship so this year the firm awarded two scholarships. Both Amy and Mariah have exemplified academic success at Park City Prep and we are proud to be able help them in their quest achieve their optimal academic potential at Notre Dame.”
Castellanos, who was the 2011 valedictorian for her class and is described by the school as a “straight A student who will not give up until success is achieved,” was involved in the Art Club and Drama Club at Park City Prep. This past year she was named Stage Manager in her school’s production of “Into the Woods.”
“I am looking forward to the academics at Notre Dame and am looking forward to playing sports, especially softball, in high school,” Castellanos said. “I am grateful for the scholarship from Ganim Group and my mom is proud of me.”
Martin, who skipped a grade in elementary school “due to her high academic ability,” is described by her school as “motivated and driven to succeed in high school and beyond.” While at Park City Prep, she was involved in Drama Club and also in numerous community service projects at her church, True Vine of Holiness, in Bridgeport.
“Notre Dame was my first choice and the scholarship from Ganim Group made my dream come true,” said Martin.
