Distance Learning Art Projects
Here is a new list of projects from which to choose. Some of you have art supplies, and some of you do not have very many. I am trying to include projects where everyone can find at least one or two to do. Check these out, and send me a photo when you’re done. Again, my email is [email protected]
- Look at the work of the artist Andy Goldsworthy. He creates art from natural materials which he finds. He makes his projects outdoors, and they are not meant to last. They will blow away, get washed out in the tide, melt or just fall apart after a while. I want you to think about making something like this if you are able to get outside safely. If you can’t, think about making art from things you find inside your house! I am going to include some examples of things done by me, or people I know, too.
Below are some examples- The first one was done by some children I know, and the second one I found online.
- 2 Online, find an interesting work of art by a famous artist. Pose yourself like that artwork, and take a picture of yourself. See examples below. Find a rock with a reasonably round surface- not too big. If you have acrylic paints or sharpies- something permanent which won’t wash off, make a kindness message on it. Many people are making these and leaving them along walkways or trails, where others can see them, or they find them and take them home.

Leaving and sharing a hopeful message does make people feel better in these hard times!

Hello, Artists!
It has been a long time since I have seen your wonderful faces, and I want you all to know how much I miss seeing you in school, and making art together. Thanks to those of you who have sent work. I have enjoyed seeing that you are still exercising your creative muscles. I hope that it is helping you to get through these different, and often difficult, times.
Many of you have family members who are still out working, whether they are health care workers, cleaning staff, grocery store employees, trucking and delivery people, first responders or any other of the many jobs which are essential right now.
This week’s assignment is to create a Heart which has become a universal thank you to the essential workers who are still getting out and doing their best in order to make our lives easier. One of my daughters is a nurse, so if you have a family member who is still out working, I understand how you feel.
Many people have created hearts with the words, “Thank You,” or with designs on them. They are displaying them in windows or other places where they can be seen, to thank those who are still working so that the rest of us can be safe.
Make a heart, in any size or color, and put it in a window, or give it to a family member who is out working, so they can share it with their fellow workers. It can be any size, and be made of any material.
I am including pictures of some small hearts which I have painted, which will be sent to some first responders in New York City. Make yours unique! You have no idea how seeing these will lift the hearts of everyone still going out every day. Email me a picture at - [email protected]
Thank you, and be safe.

Assignment
Hello, Young Artists!
As I thought about what to do for this next lesson, I realized that we are living through an historical time, unlike possibly anything else you may experience for the rest of your lives. It will go on to be one of the most famous moments in history.
These worldwide pandemics occur about once every 100 years or so. Someday, when you are grown, you will be asked all kinds of questions about what it was like to have your lives changed so much, and how you got through it.
For this week’s assignment, I would like you to think about creating a journal entry, including some interesting things which you might want to remember many years from now. If you have a notebook to work in, consider doing a few pages over the next week or so.
Think about what is different. How have your lives changed, and what is better, what is worse, what will you remember the most? When you are asked, many years from now, how will you answer? What personal story- or stories- will you tell?
For the next few days, write a sentence or two about how your day was. Write about what you did, and even more, how you felt. If you have a printer, maybe you can take a picture of yourself or your family in your home and include it. Maybe you can do a quick sketch which helps to illustrate what you wrote. Having pictures or interesting pieces or photos glued in adds interest.
Journaling is a great way to work out and work through experiences which you might want to preserve, and remember accurately in the future. You will be surprised, even just a couple of years from now, how much it will bring back details and moments in your mind.
Email me a picture of your page. [email protected]
I will try to do the same, and share with you. Ms. Godiksen
