Due:
We are going to be going over the study guide for the exam. Fill it out, and then we will go over it together.
Due:
We are going to be exploring ways in which to create space in a work of art. Space is a three dimensional volume which has width, height and depth. It can be created with overlapping, size relationships and color.
Due:
We are going to work on creating small art pieces which describe some of the art terminology of the past few years. You will be taking an exam at the end of the semester, and since you will not be in the art room when we do this, I want you to reinforce some of the things which you will need to know. Get a piece of paper, and write down these three terms, as well as the definitions. On the other side of the paper, create a piece which shows that you understand what I am looking for. 1. Portrait- a work of art with a person as the main subject.
2. Landscape- A work of art with an outdoor scene as the subject. 3. Still life- A work of art which shows a number of small objects. Be sure to show them to me so you can get credit.
Due:
You will be creating a travel brochure, describing an ecosystem as an incredible vacation destination. You will be folding a paper into thirds- I will show you examples- and doing illustrations of your chosen ecosystem. Write some brief paragraphs describing what fun activities you might do in the ecosystem. Be creative, and make us want to visit!
Look up photos of your ecosystem online, and create illustrations which will create a fun ad for your ecosystem. What will the hotel be like, the food, any fun activities. Have fun with it!
Due:
You are going to design a logo which represents you. Think about the many, immediately recognizable logos that we ee every day. A Logo design is meant to be easy to take in visually, distinctive, and conveys an image, often illustrating what a company is about. Look at the website, https://www.canva.com/learn/hidden-meanings-behind-50-worlds-recognizable-logos/
This tells and explains the visual, and not always obvious meaning behind many logos.
Due:
Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden and Pablo Picasso all had wonderful and expressive ways of creating portraits, expressing more feeling than realism. You are going to look at their work, and create a stylized portrait of your own. See the examples. Use expressive colors, not realistic ones, and have fun!
Due:
We will be looking at paintings of landscapes by the impressionists, who used vivid colors, energetic paint strokes, and rarely if ever used black. I want you to notice the warm/cool combinations of colors to describe light, and try to replicate that in one or more small watercolor sketches. Look at the work, in particular, of the artist Claude Monet. Look also at the work of JMWTurner, Henry Isaacs and Mary Gilkerson.
Due:
This is not a separate assignment- It is to help you with the reproduction. Look at the use of pure color, with no black. You can pick from these artists, or some with similar styles. Claude Monet, Mary Wilkerson, Henry Isaacs, JMW Turner
Due:
You may use your vocabulary words for this, then I will give you a drawing prompt during class for the extra credit.
Due:
We will be going over the study guide for the midterm exam, which will be given the next time you have art class. Look this over, and underline or make bold the letter for the correct answer. We will go over it together so you are prepared.
Due:
This is a lesson in dominant and recessive genes, and genetics. We will e looking at Punnett shares, and doing an exercise which demonstrates the way that two parents can have children who look dramatically different. You will be creating your own dragon, with choices between two horns or three horns, crown vs. no crown, downward spine vs. upward spine, wings vs. no wings, fire vs ice breathing, warm colors vs. cool colors and stripes vs. spots. Have fun!
Due:
We have studied the proportions of the human face, and the proportions of the human body, according g to Leonardo Davinci. You are now going to put this knowledge to practical use. I want you to do a self portrait, looking at yourself on the computer. I am looking for correct proportion and size as you work, and want you to do the values, or shading, as I have shown you. I will demonstrate this again, and want to see your work during class in order for you to get credit.
Due:
Leonardo Da vinci, as we learned last week, devised proportions of the body, using mathematical formulas. We will continue to do this together, this time drawing the human body.
Due:
Masks have been used throughout the history of the world by many different civilizations. T'hey were used for ceremonies, as death or funeral masks to help usher the soul into the next life, in peace, to bring forth magical or beneficial powers, and for many other things. I want you to concentrate on the basic designs of African masks. The three basic styles were facemask, forehead masks and helmet masks. You are going to create one in your own style. Look at the examples included here. Use many different materials.
Due:
You are going to be doing a color drawing of a flower in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe. She did enormous paintings of flowers in beautiful colors. I want you to make it big enough to run off the paper on at least two or three sides. Have Fun! I recommend that you look at photo images of flowers as your inspiration.
Due:
This assignment is going to include an in-depth study of ecosystems, including species and the environment. There will be a series of assignments which will help each of us learn our ecosystem, in order to prepare for a final work of art which will accurately illustrate it. For the first assignment, you will be selecting an ecosystem, write in which you are selecting and write the definition of your ecosystem. Next, you will draw pictures of at least five species. Include as many different species as you can. (plants, insect, trees, reptiles, etc) Try not to make them all animals. Make sure that you include the accurate name of each species.
Due:
You will be doing a drawing of your shoe, or a small object, which has detail and interesting characteristics. Before we start, you will be doing a skills exercise where you demonstrate some of the visual textures shown here.
Due:
You will be drawing two different views of your shoe, using contour line and as many details as you can see. You will be working from observation. Pick a shoe with a reasonable amount of detail. Use pencil, and utilize visual textures to create values.
Due:
You will be drawing three or more views of your hand from observation. You are not to trace. I would like you to do this in pencil, no color, and no tracing. email me the final work at my school email address, which is [email protected]. Watch the attached video!
Due:
The video would not load, so I am putting in some photos of my examples.
Due:
When you arrive in class, either in person or remotely, there will be a brief presentation describing the new structure and rules for art class. Remote learners have all been provided a bag of supplies, which need to be brought home for use during classes. There will be time appropriated to work on a fun activity, which is to create a name card to be kept on the workspace, which will be especially useful so that teachers can learn your names, or know who you are while wearing your mask!
