Due:
We are going to create a collage using several of the same objects, in different sizes, to talk about how to create space and depth in a work of art. We will cut out several shapes, then arrange them in different ways to see how the helps us to see depth, height and width, and what it makes us think about how to show space in our art.
Due:
We are going to make two more cards for our vocabulary words. These both describe types of shapes, and are called Organic shapes and Geometric shapes. I will show you two more examples, and we will make them. After that, we will make a larger piece with some of these.
We wil also look at the work of two artists- Henri Matisse's collages, and Frank Stella's protractor series.
We wil also look at the work of two artists- Henri Matisse's collages, and Frank Stella's protractor series.
Due:
We are going to be adding to our art vocabulary skills by creating small works of art which demonstrate them. We will start with three for today. These are design terms. Symmetrical, which means like a mirror image, Asymmetrical, which means not symmetrical, and radial, which is a design which radiates out from the center. I will explain and show you how this works. You will create your own designs, with both the words and the definitions.
Due:
We will be Creating an imaginary animal- a combination of two creatures, creating something fantastic and new! Fill out this worksheet, and get ready to create some thumbnail sketches, small drawings which will help you to work out your ideas. Fill in the worksheet and submit it to google classroom.
Due:
We are going to be looking at photos of the incredible sunsets in the Serengeti, which is in Kenya and Tanzania. The land is very flat and broad, and it is known for its incredible sunsets, as well as the amazing animals which live there, such as giraffes, antelopes, elephants, cheetahs and more. WE will first create the sky, then we will add a silhouette of trees and possibly animals.
Due:
We will be looking at the art of Paul Klee, who created many interesting paintings, using simple shapes. We will discuss how to start, then build upon our drawing, using squares, rectangles and triangles, then decide upon how to add color in order to make it truly interesting.
Due:
Jacob Lawrence, Romare Bearden and Pablo Picasso all had wonderful and expressive ways of creating portraits, expressing more feeling than realism. You are going to look at their work, and create a stylized portrait of your own. See the examples. Use expressive colors, not realistic ones, and have fun!
Due:
Zentangle is very similar to our last assignment, the Original art, in that it involves repeating simple designs and patterns, yet the possibilities are endless! We will be talking about Zentangle, looking at some videos, and doing some small practice pieces before starting a final piece.
Due:
You may use your vocabulary words and study guide. I will Gove you a drawing prompt for extra credit.
Due:
Read through this study guide and underline the correct answer. Copy and paste into Google classroom. We will correct it together in preparation for your exam.
Due:
Henri amatisse was first known as a painter, but, as he grew older, he had trouble with his hands, so he changed to come a very famous collage artist. We are going to watch video out this, and then create a collage of our own!
Due:
Insects and arachnids- also known as bugs- are very interesting! We are going to be looking at many different kinds of bugs, then we will create a work of art illustrating one!
Due:
The Ancient Egyptians were a very sophisticated civilization, with beautiful art, architecture, jewelry and furniture, among other things. Their rulers, the pharaohs, built pyramids which were designed to give them a place which would help them move on to the afterlife after they died. They were places there after death, with many earthly treasures. We are going to look at these, and Crete our own art, inspired by their incredible works. You will start with a drawing, and we will add to it afterwards. Look at the examples.
Due:
You are going to be creating an imaginary or real creature, using the collage style of Eric Carle, who wrote "The Very Hungry Caterpillar." He created his own papers, using bright and beautiful colors, then cut his shapes from them, to make his wonderful book illustrations. I want you to write a sentence on it, once you have finished, telling me about your work. We will be watching a video of him working, and see how he does it!
Due:
You will be creating three small drawings which tell a story. There will be no words to go with the pictures, so the story is going to do the work.
This will be done during class time, so you do not need to do the work on your own. I will help you with ideas and developing your work.
Due:
We are going to talk about colors, and how to create them. Color is defined as Differing wavelengths of light. This is how your eyes see color. I hope that most of you have some art supplies. I am going to help you to create a color wheel, and we will be talking about color mixing.
Due:
These are some of the color wheels which I use in order to help you understand Primary,
Secondary and Tertiary colors.
Due:
We will be discussing and looking at the collages created by the artist Romare Bearden. These are wonderful pieces which were made from cut paper and photos, which described events and times in his life. They all told a story, using pictures. Look at some of the examples in the pictures, which are attached. If you are a remote student, you will need to have your parent pick up additional supplies for you at the security desk. These will be ready on September 25th.
Due:
You will be drawing three or more views of your hand from observation. You are not to trace. I would like you to do this in pencil, no color, and no tracing. email me the final work at my school email address, which is [email protected]. Watch the attached video!
Due:
The video would not load, so I am putting in some photos of my examples.
Due:
When you arrive in class, either in person or remotely, there will be a brief presentation describing the new structure and rules for art class. Remote learners have all been provided a bag of supplies, which need to be brought home for use during classes. There will be time appropriated to work on a fun activity, which is to create a name card to be kept on the workspace, which will be especially useful so that teachers can learn your names, or know who you are while wearing your mask!
