Choice in Home Art Assignments

I had posted these earlier, but they were removed once I entered you all into G
google Classroom. If you are unable to do your assignment, because of lack of materials or any other reason, complete one of these each week.

Choose at least one assignment a week to complete.  The work should show at least an hour to an hour-and-a-half of time spent.

  1. Sit a family member down comfortably, perhaps when they are watching TV or using a computer.  Do a contour line drawing of them.  If you are doing the Barack Obama assignment, add symbols, background, patterns, color or other details to tell us about your subject.
  2. Using a sharpie or pen, draw a picture of a chair.  Try to add some values using cross hatching.
  3. Do a perspective drawing of an interior, such as a room, or a hallway. Include any details which add interest.
  4. Using a medium toned paper, such as the gray drawing paper or a paper bag, draw a glass object using both dark and light values. Try to notice the reflections.
  5. Look out the window and sketch a street scene. Be selective in your use of details, creating emphasis in some areas, while leaving others less finished.
  6. Draw your hand using three different techniques. See samples.
  7. Draw a simple object in at least four to six different ways. Blow up areas, explore repeating shapes and draw from an unusual point of view.  See samples, but feel free to experiment.
  8. Using watercolors, take a dark or neutral color and make a wash. Let it dry. Use a pen or extra fine sharpie to draw into the wash, looking for images.
  9. Do a series of quick sketches of your pet. Use contour line, gesture line and add values.
  10. Look at a favorite passage in a book which you’ve enjoyed reading.  Create an illustration of it.  Include the title of the book and a sentence describing the illustration.
  11. At sunrise or sunset when the sky is filled with color, take a picture of it with your phone. Draw or paint it using any colored medium.
  12. Arrange a still life of some objects. Put them in a place with strong light where they won’t be disturbed.  Shine a lamp on it and draw it using as many values as you can.
